late to sleep, late to rise

Lately I have been noticing more and more people wearing pajama bottoms or sweatpants over their jeans. Please explain it to me because I feel like my grandmother shouting “I don’t understand kids these days! Back in my day we only had one pair of pants and we didn’t go out wearing our drawers on the outside of our clothes!”

now this is one I have NEVER seen before

Because I was curious, I googled “pajama pants over jeans” and I found 2 hits. One was my Flickr post (duh) and the other said this

I tried to click on it but I’m at work so I got the following message:

Hmmm. Did you have to say it that big, Mr. Work Computer? I mean now I feel like a whore and I’m blushing trying to cover the screen when really I was just trying to get up to date on this odd fashion trend that continues to bewilder me. I know for a fact that this is a trend somewhere because when I was at the airport in Frankfurt I saw this:

If you look closely, you can see it's the same zipper. I am disturbed. Okay, the man purse I will look past, but check out the pants. Those sweats are ATTACHED to a denim waist band. It's SUPPOSED to look like he has on saggy ass sweats over jeans. WHY?

That is a man wearing pants which are made to look like sweatpants over jeans, yet on closer inspection they are one pair of pants, as evidenced by the single zipper uniting the two fabrics, which was so utterly disturbing that I am not even going to mention the man-purse he is carrying (besides, it’s Europe).

  1. Ya know, I was ready to give you a few theories on the sweats over jeans thing until…I saw the dude wearing the pants made to look like sweats over jeans. That is insane.
    I am working on making a pair of shorts that is also a skirt. Oh…wait a minute…

  3. I am currently wearing sweatpants over jeans (wasn’t aware it had ever been a trend) because it is like -30 degrees wind chill today. In other words, it is Fing cold.

    And now I’m warm and toasty! And kind of wondering if I can get by with this look in public…and I’m starting to think that I like it so much that I don’t care if I look like I got dressed in the dark.
