it’s true, all Asians hate Blacks
I am fascinated by the goings on of my Asian brethren up in San Francisco. I am having rather mixed feelings about the knee-jerk reaction that occurred after the article was published. Does AsianWeek really need to avoid publishing articles that, however offensive, represent the opinions of some (likely a minority) of their readers? Is that because AsianWeek is not the appropriate forum, or because they feel that people are so mindless that they will assume that one man’s opinion (in an editorial, no less) is the opinion of AsianWeek and thus entire Asian American community? (How narcissistic of them.) Honestly, I think we need more radical (bordering on insane) people who aren’t afraid to speak their mind. Let’s get it out there, and make people aware that racism, sexism, and everything else is actually alive and well.
Just going on personal experience, I can say with confidence that racism is rampant in the Asian American community, and those who aren’t a part of this community may not realize how large this problem is. So fuck it, let the guy speak his mind, no matter how idiotic or ignorant it may be. I would prefer that over firing the guy to pretend this shit doesn’t exist.
In a way, I think allowing his editorial to be published is essential to progress. How can they say they’re promoting tolerance and diversity and then fire a guy because his opinion (however stupid it is) is in the minority. As the great leader GI JOE taught us: “knowing is half the battle.” In order to move forward and make progress, we have to be aware of what’s in the way. Pretending it doesn’t exist, firing those who are ballsy and/or stupid enough to publish their dissenting opinions, and creating a big ruckus isn’t going to move us forward. We’re going to stagnate in our delusion of complacency, putting white out and apologies over anything that anyone finds harmful or offensive, and try to create a homogenous society of multi-cultural, supremely-tolerant, super-diverse perfection. Perfection doesn’t exist. And sometimes it’s the flaws that are interesting.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t agree with this guy’s ignorance, and he really should start reading books that were written after 1946. I’m Asian American and the love of my life is a Black man. I just wish we could give people enough credit to think they can read something without being forced to agree with it. Sometimes the right is defined by the wrong. And sometimes we need to believe that people are smart enough to handle the fact that not everyone agrees with them.

Well put argument Malingering! Where I live, I’ve seen so much racism from Asians (particularly from Asian women) and it seems that everyone wants to act like it doesn’t exist. I have cosines who are Black and Siberian. I am White and Siberian. My mother is White and my father is Siberian. I agree with all this. Even though my cosines parents Siberian and Black are split up I am Siberian and I still have Black friends. Good point.
