driving in LA: you can’t win

I try to be a careful and considerate driver, and still I piss everyone off.

Today I was waiting to turn right. I see a pedestrian push the crosswalk button, so I deduce he is going to cross the street. Then he gets the walk sign. But he doesn’t cross. I wait 2 seconds and finally he crosses. Right when he passes in front of my car, the car behind me honks at me to turn. I point at the pedestrian. Meanwhile the pedestrian a.k.a. 20-something very tattooed athletic somewhat menacing latino guy thinks I’m honking, so he turns around and starts threatening me through my open window. I keep saying “I didn’t honk, I waited for you” but he kept yelling and yelling. I swear I can’t win.

  1. I never can figure out if people like that are very defensive/sensitive or offensive. A paradox.
