(blech!) 5 rounds of max double-unders in 1 minute (30 second rest in between)

I hate double unders. They end up being so painful, as the tips of my toes and the front of my shins are all red from being whipped with the stupid jump rope it’s like pure torture and it’s really not satisfying at all, even when you finish and you can say “I did 107 double unders in 5 minutes of work” you still don’t feel good about it because your shins are about to peel off.

As Many Rounds As Possible in 15 minutes
7 burpee box jumps (23″ box)
7 pressing snatch balance (35# barbell) – this isn’t as dirty as it sounds
7 ab-mat sit-ups

total rounds: 6

I felt certain that I was going to smack my head onto the box doing burpee box jumps so the fact that I didn’t was an accomplishment in itself. Also I managed to figure out how to get it all down in one motion which was rather nice. I can probably use a bigger box next time. I’d never done these pressing snatch things before, they were really hard but sort of fun as I like anything that involves holding weight overhead (probably because it increases the risk of me dropping something on my skull and I like to live on the edge, WHAT!).

I just realized that this talk of box and snatch is probably going to get me a lot of spam in the next few days.

There’s a saying in pediatrics, “kids are not just little adults.” Well I beg to differ. If we dress them like mini-grown-ups, and don’t let them act like children, well maybe they can just skip the whole childhood bullshit and get them straight into the good life.

Crossfit goals for 2008

We’ve been setting workout goals for 2008, so I came up with a few to start with.

-5 unassisted handstand push-ups touching the top of my head to the ground (I absolutely 100% refuse to do that forehead to the ground thing, that goes against 12 years of training and I simply will not compromise my form but I will work on the top of the head thing)

-1 muscle up (I can do 8 in a row with the mini band and 0 in a row with no band. I can’t seem to find the in between. So annoying.)

-Run in a 10K race, without stopping to puke or do anything else (never, ever done this before in my life)

-15 overhead bodyweight squats – so far I’ve only managed one (what’s 14 more??!?)

-100 sit-ups in 2 minutes (I think the most I’ve ever done is 85)

-Run on my own, once a week, no matter how slow or tired I am

freezing cold beach workout

The gym has an abbreviated schedule this week, so we went and did our own workout at the beach. It’s sort of a half-Angie with some running. Unfortunately it was 50 degrees and very windy. But we stuck with it. Forgot the stop watch – IDIOT!

I’ve never done weighted pull-ups before. I tried a few with the 15lb dumbbell and eventually decreased to the 5lbs. One-armed kettlebell swings hurt my back. Sometimes I wish I were heavier.

lip busting workout

smacked my lip in today's workout

Today’s workout was a lip buster. Literally. I smacked myself in the upper lip while doing a push press and cut the inside of my mouth. I’m clumsy.

Halfway through the workout it occurred to me that the guys were using the weight racks for their 75# barbells, and meanwhile the girls in the other room had to power clean the bar before every exercise (so add in 20 power cleans on top of the above workout) which left me with a hell of a clavicle bruise. Men. I swear.

Oh well. Cleans are my weak point, so I suppose it’s good I got a few extra in there. Otherwise, I really like overhead squats, and I pretty much like push press (minus the cut in my mouth), so this workout was fun. Exhausting, but fun.
