now they’re mocking me

Only a few days after I wrote about Crossfit and the Zone, a reprint from the Crossfit journal addressing that exact issue shows up on the Crossfit website. Coincidence? Probably. Anyway I wrote a few comments, asking their opinion on the JAMA published research that shows that that 1) the Atkins diet was more effective in controlling weight, blood sugar, insulin and cholesterol and 2) the science behind the Zone diet was shown to be false.

Interestingly enough, my comments were deleted without a response.

Is that my answer?

  1. Post your thoughts again. Science doesn’t prove. When you come across people proving things in the name of science, run! Proof is the exclusive province of math and logic, NEVER science.

Post your thought without editorializing and without offering anything that may dismiss your question as being meaningless and let’s hope for a respsonse

BTW, is there really any JAMA “research” on the Zone? I seriously doubt they’d dirty their rag with research. Especially on diet.

  2. The Journal of the American Medical Association has published research on the Zone (see below). All you have to do is go to Google and type in “JAMA” and “Zone” and your serious doubts will be dismissed. It’s not like I made this up. I linked to the articles when I commented on crossfit.com however they were removed.

This is what I posted on crossfit.com:

“I was wondering what your opinion is on the following articles, as they don’t show the Zone to be superior:

  3. Greg,

Science and the scientific method are based on math and logic. I suppose if you want to dismiss science, feel free. But then you might as well join a hippie cult and start preaching “The Secret” method of weight loss and fitness: Just think your way to thinness.

But even if “science” doesn’t prove anything, show me the math and logic that prove that Zone is more effective than Atkins. It shouldn’t be so hard. Just gather statistics, use math, and make logical conclusions from those statistics…or wait, that’s science.

Your response was emotional and non-intellectual. I would have hoped for better from you, but it appears you have joined the world of people who latch onto ideas and then claim them as truth, even when cold, hard, logical, mathematic evidence points in the opposite direction.

I don’t claim to know anything about Atkins versus the Zone. I do, however, know intellectual rigor when I see it, and it isn’t in your comment.

    Shame on you.

  4. “Post your thought without editorializing”?

Well, shit. I would think that “thought” and “without editorializing” would literally cancel each other out.

    Joey is correct. Non-intellectual indeed.

I have to wonder about a forum that censors comments that are meant to create discussion.

  5. Greg, if you don’t believe in science you should “run” from the next airplane you are about to fly on, because a great deal of what holds them up in the air is based on science. I’m not sure what you are trying to say in regard to your “science doesn’t prove” comment. Are you saying there is a theoretical proof that involves the zone diet? I’d like to see the equations.
