I’m sick and the cats don’t care

I’ve been sick way too many times this season. I’ve already had two colds and bronchitis and it’s January. I got my flu shot this year which clearly did nothing for me. I’ve been trying to figure out why I’ve been getting sick so frequently as this wasn’t a problem before, and now I’m exercising regularly for the first time in almost 10 years, so you’d think I would be healthier now. I’m also spending a lot less time inside the hospital, as I used to be there every single day and now it’s just on occasion. So I don’t know. Maybe I’m wearing myself down with the exercising. Maybe there’s a lot of germs at my gym. Maybe I just don’t have a good immune system. Who knows. But I’m really wishing someone would take care of me right now! *whimper*

  1. Totally know where you’re coming from (I skipped bronchitis on the last cold but just realized low-level asthma as settled in).

Sending Feel-Better-Soon juju. And cats that do housework.

  2. You do very exhaustive exercise with little recovery - your immune system could be telling you it needs a break, or a compromise. Could you have exercise related immunosupression?

I found I could slog my days in the gym and be fine, but once I returned to work, but kept the same workout routine, I was getting sick every 6-8 weeks. I had to modify my workouts to find the balance again. I’m still trying to figure it out. Definitely need a lot more sleep than I did when not working. 10 hours at least.

Maybe triathlons would suit you better? Oh, and have you seen those wee purse sized bottles of antibac hand gel? Just rub it in and voila! Squeaky clean hands!

  3. It happens. I teach and get flu shots, wash my hands compulsively, ride my bike to work, etc-etc and this year is the first in about 9 years of teaching that I haven’t gotten sick.
