you have got to be fucking kidding me
My foot has been bothering me since last Friday’s workout. I went to the doctor finally, who did some x-rays and thinks it’s a stress fracture thanks to some funky shit on the film. MRI is next week. So now I’m in this goddamn walking boot, I can’t workout because I can’t even walk, I can’t even clean the house, and worst of all, the cats are afraid of me.
I’m the third person at my gym to injure him/herself in the past week. The other two were shoulder injuries, mine is my foot. I’m considering giving up the CrossFit. It’s not worth being in pain and hobbling around and not being able to work well. I used to hurt myself in gymnastics all the time, but that was different. I was young and stupid, and I was competing at a national level so it seemed worth it to win. The benefits seemed to outweigh the risks. But I started doing CrossFit so I could stay in shape and feel good about myself, and sitting here in this walking boot chugging the Motrin is neither of those things.

That’s a bitch. I’d hate to see you give up on CrossFit. I always enjoy reading about the workouts and if I wasn’t already so entrenched in triathlon training I’d like to give it a try. Get your rest, it’ll get better!

The whole point of working out, as you said, is to stay fit - not get hurt. If you’re getting injured, it isn’t worth it. There are other ways to stay fit besides this Crossfit thing, and I’m sure there are lots of programs that are less demanding on your body.
Rest up, heal up, and give it some thought. I’m sure you will come up with a reasonable compromise that won’t compromise your health.
Meantime, put some catnip in the boot - the cats will be your best friends again.

Crossfit keeps you in shape like no other exercise program I have encountered. Total body workout. Your posts about it inspired me to try it and so far its been great. It sucks that you hurt yourself, but you can hurt yourself in any athletic endeavor.
